Convincing Silas to finally leave the house was a miracle. He thought I was in imminent danger from the three men in my living room. If he only knew how deadly they were, he'd have never left. But their viciousness wasn’t directed at me. I’m as safe with them as I am in the pack house.

I walk through the front door after Silas leaves and find Wake sitting on the couch, waiting for me. Solomon and Ford are gone as I expected they would be. I’m in no danger with Wake. Never would a mate inflict pain on their other half.

He stands as I approach. I don't stop walking until I'm mere inches from him. “I'm not sure what to do,” I admit as nervousness flutters through my stomach. I've never been nervous with a guy before. Ever. But Wake isn't some guy. He's the one who makes me feel things no one else ever has. He's the one who makes me believe there's something amazing waiting for us, once we fully embrace it.

Wake smiles shyly and ducks his head. “I'm not exactly experienced here, either.”

“You've never been with another woman?” His eyes snap up to mine as my words register in his brain. “I didn't mean like that. Well, I did, but I didn't mean that's what we'd be doing now that we're alone.” And I'm rambling. I bite my bottom lip to keep quiet.

Wake lifts his hand to gently pry my lip free and runs the pad of his thumb across it. “I've been with one other female. It was before I ever laid eyes on you.” It doesn’t bother me too much that he was with someone else. I’m not exactly an angel over here.

“I'm glad we're finally here,” I tell him. “It almost doesn't feel real.” This whole thing is a dream come true. Wake finally came to his senses to explore this thing between us, and I'd been open enough to welcome it. Then our world was rocked as part of our bond clicked into place. I'm still in awe of it. Of what we can do. It's only the beginning.

“You're a dream come true, Paige.” Wake dips his head to kiss me, but I pull away.

“There’s no going back. We’re in this together. No running. No hiding. No freezing me out. Got it?” I can't go back to wondering what he's doing and where he is. I need to know Wake is just as committed to me as I am to him. This won't be a one-way street. Both of us need to respect the other. We need to communicate openly.

“There's no one else I want. No one I've felt anything for. Even back at Ford's. Those women, none of them made me feel even an ounce of what you do.” Hold on.

“You were with other women? I thought you said—”

“I wasn't with them in that sense,” he cuts me off. “Just talking, hanging out on the beach, or going to dinner. As a group,” he clarifies.
